hi, my master pot is crackling. I have the magic spray, just curious as to where i spray it on the pot to clean it. Do i open the unit and spray on the back of the pot or do i just take off the knob and spray some on the front part?

John,
You will need to open the case and spray the pot from inside the amp. Assuming it is not a sealed pot (my Nav is unsealed) you should see some openings around the edge of the pot. Spray through these openings while turning the pot back and forth through it's complete range. Do this several times and the pot should be as clean as it will get. If you still have crackling after this it is time to replace the pot.

Removing the seeds also prevents pin-hole burns on your favorite satin shirt.

But... you knew that already, didn't you?

One shot of the spray should do the trick. No need to overdo that.

Yesterday, I cleaned all the pots in a friend's Walter Woods amp. They were really noisy.

He had come over to compare his unknown 15" system vs. my 112XLT. We even threw my old Peavey Minx 110 amp into the mix. He liked the 112, and I agree: its midrange sounds good on the upright.

He's gonna borrow the 112 for a New Years Eve gig on upright.

hi guys, well the magic spray hasnt worked. I tried it on two seperate occassions and the scratchy pot is still, well scratchy. I guess i'll need a new master post. It doesnt really bother me though seeming its on scratchy when a note is played and then turning, so as long as im not playing anything when im turning the knob it wont be scratchy

Sorry to hear the cleaning didn't work. Replacing the pot is pretty straight forward. It shouldn't take more than an hour to do. The biggest hassle is removing all of the knobs and nuts from the controls on the front panel so you can get to the underside of the board to de-solder the old pot and solder in the new pot. Of course this is not near as bad as my old Tapco RB6100 mixer where it seemed to take days to replace a pot.

yeh it does seems like a little hassle to removing all the pots from the front then de-soldering and replacing the pot that needs to be replaced. I guess il see if i can live with it, if not il need to replace it. Where do i get the pot from? can i use a pot from an electronic store as long as its the same type of pot?

My master pot has done this since day 1. I discussed this on the forum and several other members mentioned similar experiences. The scratchy sound is heard only if a note is being played and is totally silent otherwise.

My master pot scratches only when I turn it, never when I play (on my store-demo ebay-bought WT550B). I've been too lazy to order some Craig's DeOxit and spray some in there. Maybe I should. I'll post my findings when I get it done.
