What are these?  Replacements for the Nemesis series from a few years ago.

Not much info on the amps - at all.  I assume they are based on the WTX series amps (500 watts and 225 watts)

p.s. they look a bit weird  ;)

Post by: Paulinderwick on January 21, 2016, 12:50:24 PM
Fascinating - slightly heavier than the WTX but a lot wider so rack mountable I assume, more tone shaping, they seem to be between the WTX and the larger amps.  No 12" speaker option, only a 10" (4x,2x,1x) which is a bit of a surprise as many more people seem to be happy with the flexibility that 12" options give.  A weird look?  I like it - on a dark stage you know exactly where bass treble and the mids are from their placing on the fascia. The same sort of attention to detail seems evident from the back layout as well. When do we get to hear them????

Go to NAMM to check them :D
Nice tone control I see.
I will get more info soon.

Oh, there is a 12" combo ;)

Yep - just seen the 12" combo, as there seems very little detail on it - I don't think it exists at the moment!. No weight which is the most crucial thing for us oldies.  I really like the look of this range it has been thought out ergonomically - I just wonder if traditional amp buyers will appreciate the design subtlety?  Maybe it's a European thing?

No idea, i like it that way.
Clean and logical.

Two bands of semi-parametric midrange EQ is a welcome addition.  More power would be good too--the Class D market is crowded, moving fast and the 700-900 watt power sections are pretty common offerings these days.  On-board overdrive (whether mild or all-the-way ferocious) is getting more common too.  I miss the "warm" switch on my WT405 and wish Eden had gone a little farther with it.  :(

Design is a matter of personal taste.  What every company wants is some of the Apple cachet.  You can argue that looks shouldn't matter but they do with many or most consumers.  Then there's the idea of keeping a traditional look or tie-in with popular past products.  I'm glad it's not my job to design how these amps should look!  ;)

Nice work Eden !!

The Two bands of semi-parametric midrange EQ is  More flexible at the disire tone
More power would be good too !!!! .
It should have been  the TN501 the small amp ... and the TN 1000 or 800 the NEW big boy .
800-1000 watt power sections are pretty common  these days from other competitive companies

Whilst on the subject of bags and whether there will be one two thoughts - if you considered buying a WTX bag but haven't get one now if there is still stock available, but secondly, and maybe more importantly - the new amps are twice as long as they are deep (roughly) and unless Eden make a dedicated bag it may be very difficult to find a suitable case to benefit from the lightweight nature of the amp.  For example, I was never able to get a bag for my WT330 and got tired of humping it in a rack case which added a lot of weight.  Like many I have found that a DJ mixer bag is just about ideal and just about the right size, but how many similar bags are designed for 12.75" x 6.9"?

Wow, something about the look of these I really like.

Is the power section digital or class B?
How much are these?
Are they on sale anywhere yet?

I wish the 500W version came in combo.  The layout looks just as friendly in a vertical position as it would be flat.  I fear the TN2252 would be under powered for an extension cab if digital.
Title: Re: NEW PRODUCTS FOR 2016 TERRA NOVA
Post by: Bassmann1968 on January 28, 2016, 03:08:14 AM
Hi,
The power section is Class D (which is not digital!) for sure not Class B!
In the USA the TN226 will street at $499 and the TN501 will street at $649
They will hit the stores soon.

The amp power is fine, because there is no extension cab connection. Just for an external cab, which will switch off the internal woofers.
Title: Re: NEW PRODUCTS FOR 2016 TERRA NOVA
Post by: OhulahanBass on January 28, 2016, 11:01:46 AM
Hmm, hopefully they will come out with a combo for the 501 that can drive an additional extension cab.  That would be great for me, leave the extension at the rehearsal space and travel from my home studio to rehearsal space with the combo.

Besides the sexy look, any other differences between the WTX and the Novas?
Title: Re: NEW PRODUCTS FOR 2016 TERRA NOVA
Post by: Paulinderwick on January 28, 2016, 11:11:32 AM
Eden try to maximise the power output of their combo's - you can add an extension but it will disconnect the internal speaker - the internal speaker is 4ohm so adding another speaker without switching off the internal will give a load of less than 4 ohm and fry the amp.  So it's an either or situation.  As surface area will always add more perceived volume than wattage you could go for a separate 4ohm 410 - for example the TN410 - handles 600 watts and 4ohm is available.

Post by: OhulahanBass on January 28, 2016, 11:57:03 AM
I see.  That makes since.

I guess the only question that remains is how are the Terras different from the WTX, (besides the obvious para EQ and different size/layout).
Title: Re: NEW PRODUCTS FOR 2016 TERRA NOVA
Post by: Rip Van Dan on January 28, 2016, 04:26:33 PM
The added EQ flexibility in the mid range is a very good thing!  Plus the ability to plug in an mp3 player or CD player with the 3.5mm plugs in the back is very handy.  The Aux-in is also 3.5mm and is in the back whereas the WTX500 has L and R aux with 1/4" jacks on the front.

Interestingly, if you want to easily hook up 2 external speaker cabs (careful not to go less than 4 ohm load), you can use the two 1/4" plugs or just daisy chain from one cab to the other - it's all a parallel connection.

Not sure, but I believe you can also use the Speakon output with an NL4 connector that can be split on the other end to two separate Speakon  cords  for the two cabs using 1 +/- for one cab and 2 +/- connections for the other.  If using two cabs though, I don't know if I'd worry about the Speakon connectors.  I toured for years with 1/4" plugs running 250 watts through them with no problem.  I would NOT do that with my current 800-watt amp.

I was more concerned with the topology of the amp and about how loud it can get.  Is it basically a WTX with few extra features or a stripped down WTP?

My fav amp tones are from the E300T and Time Traveler, I would love for some Time Traveler Gene Pool.  I don't have the arsenal all you do but Eden is still a big part of my tone.  Lately I have craved a combo and was looking at the GK MB212.  But a TN501 in a combo I would want more!

Hey gang - I'm very familiar with these amps (having spent all of NAMM with them) if you have questions... some comments based on ones I've seen.

They are rack mountable AND the rack ears store in a recessed area on the underside of the heads.

The POWER section ultimately the same as the WTX for the 500w.

The update to the eq section changes the way the heads interact with the power section in a pleasing way... they sound 'warmer/fuller' than their wtx counter parts.

The overall area the heads take up is about the same as the wtx, where the wtx was narrower, it is also deeper... and it has the DI level knob on the back.

The combos are excellent. The 2x10 has a a lot of punch and crispness (...and I still currently play a metro). It is small and light-ish (for what it is). The 1x12 feels similar... and astute observers will notice the front panel is tilted up slightly.

The real star to me is the TN110. I played through this a lot and it handles a low B and is smooth through a full sweep up the neck. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get 2 - 8 Ohm versions and a TN501. Seriously, everyone was impressed by this cabinet.

The Terra Nova heads easily fit in my MONO FlyBy bag (which I use when I fly with my current wtx).

The main difference between these and the wtx is that the Terra Novas do away with any 'combo' controls. Everything has a dedicated push switch or knob. They also come with rack ears and the Eq section makes a big difference. I am really impressed with these.

BassDBler,

How does the Tarra combo hang with the Metro?

Seems with less than half the watts it wouldn't come too close to being a stage beast like the Metro could.  Hopefully they will move to put 500W Terra in a 210 combo.

Post by: BassDbler on January 31, 2016, 10:06:02 PM
I haven't done any real A/B testing. I would love to have a 2x10 Terra Nova combo for rehearsals or smaller gigs. It is tough to compare directly without having them side by side, but I'd say my metro is fuller and boomier (sic?) while the Terra Nova seems more focused but not as rich. The Terra Nova is no slouch and it weighs a whole lot less than my metro (I have a lot, a lot, of steps to from my home). I'm only comparing these to the Nemesis line from memory... But it seems similar. The combos seemed plenty loud to me... For the grey area clubs with vocals only pa, etc. I really like the 2x10 TN combo. If you're really concerned with stage volume, I often play with my wtx and one of the 2x10 wedge cabs. I use that for most rehearsals too.

Any idea as to when the TN combos will be available in the U.S.?
I'm assuming the quality of the TN's is much higher (with more power) than the E series?

Anxious in Colorado!

Hi Paul,
they are available now!
In the UK the first load is already sold and in the US they sell fast as well.
The next shipment is on the water and beginning of Aprl in the shops.
If you want one better run to your next Eden dealer and have him put your name on it.

It is an Eden masterpiece and great idea to put the WT550 tone in a lightweight amp.

Thanks!  I'll keep my eyes open.  Haven't seen them yet in local stores OR at any of the national music mail order dealers.  The 12" TN would be a great portable companion to my D210xst cab and WT550 head.  Will be nice to have a "quality" lightweight to take to rehearsals and small jam sessions.

Appreciate the info!

What is the wattage rating of the TN501 at 8 ohms?
Will the TN EQ fix the lack of clean mids, high mids that the WTX suffered from ?

Then this is the right amp for you.
300W.

Yeah, I love the tone of the WT550. I have the WTX500 but it seems to not be able to keep up at band practice. I run 8 ohm cab.
Title: Re: NEW PRODUCTS FOR 2016 TERRA NOVA
Post by: BassDbler on April 08, 2016, 03:04:54 PM
The power section is the same on the Terra Nova as it is on the WTX. The Terra Nova does sound WAY better, though. I also feel like there is more headroom and I don't need to boost any frequencies. I played a gig with just it and a 2x10 and was fine (but I was also running through the PA). The Terra Nova sounds much fuller than the wtx at volume. If your rehearsals are quite loud, I'd look at getting another 8ohm cab for the biggest bang.

I bought a Skinz bag for a DJ mixer which was, like the World Tour Bag you mention, about right - but the Eden bags were/are great - I have one for my WTZ260 and the protection it offers is so much better than any other bag - Oh - and the other problem is I'm in the UK so zZounds won't help... that's why Eden must, if they have any sense, make a bag to fit...

At 225w, if I compare that to my WTX260, with a single ten at 4ohms, is good enough for acoustic band.
Once drums come into play, I need a 410.
The 500w will be nice for rehearsals with a single twelve or a 210 cab. With drums, you'll still need a 410.

But the minimum onstage setting with open drummer would be 500w, and a 210 aimed straight at you, and a 210 or 112.

500w is about at the upper range of what 112 or 210 cabs can handle.

I'm also in agreement that the 225W makes little sense, and that Eden would sell better if they would create the combos with a 8ohms cab, and 500W amp, hardwarematically limited to the peak wattage of the cab.
It would be good enough for most live performances, and allow an extension cab to be added (eg: one aimed towards the drummer, or just added as a stack).

I guess I should comment on the Terra Nova here too. I won a TN226 in Eden's Facebook contest and have used it in two outdoor jobs with a rock and roll band. This amp ROCKS!!
I used it with a D112XST and D112XLT. This little rig has plenty of power and headroom to handle this sort of job.
I am very impressed with the Terra Nova! It is more like the WT550 than the WTX Series. It has warmth, depth, highs, growl. All this in a five pound amp. I can't say too many good things about it.

As I have said before, I am very pleased with the Terra Nova 226.
If I were to get a TN501 could I expect it to sound the same, only with more power?

Thanks

I'd recommend the D112XST. I have a D112XLT and bought a D112XST to go with it. They sound very good  with any of my amps, see my sig below. At small to medium clubs I can use either cab with any of the amps, and use both cabs for larger clubs and outdoor gigs.
It's a good way to go if you are looking for a lighter cab.

I agree that a 500w 4 ohm 2x10 combo makes much more sense. That's 300ish watts with the internal 210, 500 with an 8 ohm extension.

Next, does the headphone jack on the combos defeat the internal speaker for silent practice?

Thank you.

True - but Eden do now make a case especially for the the TN series which they didn't back in January 2016.  I think the width is related to the width of the WTseries - 13" to fit in a rack case... http://www.edenamps.com/accessories.html
