Gibson LP double cut bass
« on: June 04, 2006, 11:54:36 AM »
Yesterday, i played with this little puppy at the music store http://gibson.com/Products/GibsonElectric/Gibson%20Electric%20Guitars/Gibson%20Basses/Les%20Paul%20Double%20Cut%20Bass/

I never played with a Gibson bass before nor did i really wished to try one but after trying some epiphones (just for fun) i tried the only Gibson in stock. I really REALLY liked that bass. Tone, feel, action, simplicity everything was perfect. There was one thing that i didn't quite like. The finish wasn't to my liking. I was told that Gibson applies the coating (varnish?) by hand and it looked a bit ondulated. Not sure if my french-english translation works here. It only was visible with an up close checkup.

I'm now wondering if you Edenites have any experience with Gibson's. Is it something normal? should i expect that from all their instruments?

thanks!

i'm gonna take this as: no news is BAD news.... i keep reading horror stories for Gibson on the net.  but that bass was so nice, if only the finish was WAY better.

Christian, I haven't even seen a Gibson bass for years!  I know they've never been to my taste, but you have to go with what does it for you.

I’d love to get hold of a Gibson Custom Shop Leland Sklar bass (1996-1999 production period)

RDUB, well that bass really caught my attention. Other than the finish i absolutely loved it! i'm working to try to get my hand on another one to see if i can find a nicer one on the finish side.

The only things that worries me a bit, is the complete lack of info on gibson basses on the net. I'm not talking about vintage basses. The exception being the tunderbird (which i don't like). It seems like this double cut les paul is a new model. On the other side, i would also enjoy having a bass that is less frequently seen :)

One last thing, i played it thru a WT405/D112XLT and there was no mud coming out of that puppy (at least not that i could notice). Having Eden at the store to ensure the sound of the instrument is a strong selling point for me.

Christian, i found this which although only the opinion of one person they certainly do and this guy also uses Eden so quite a high likely hood that you'd like it too.
