Mackie Onyx Mixing board?
« on: June 01, 2006, 09:05:08 AM »
I just bought an Onyx 1640, I have used it once live and so far I like it. My band needs 5 monitor mixes so I really like having 6 aux sends with seperate pre/post switches. I was wondering if any one else on the forum uses one and your opinions. Thanks Jeff.

I went with the A&H MixWiz for the same reason, I use four aux. sends for monitors and the last two for FX's. I liked the EQ section better on the A&H but both are great boards for the local club scene.

Are all of the Aux sends switchable on the Onyx?

Did you rack mount the Onyx? I used a SKB pop up rack mixer case, kind of pricey but I caught a good deal on a used one for $120. They work pretty good and make setup and transport easy.

Vinny, All the the auxes are switchable. The local music store doesn't carry the MixWiz or I would have probably bought that. From what I have read on other forums most people prefer the MixWiz. My dealer is ordering me a case from unitec. The board will be mounted by the rack rails but will be horizontal instead of vertical.

I've got the A&H MixWiz 16:2 and love it, has anyone else tried connecting to their PC via MIDI and using the FX editing software?

Mod,
The onyx I felt was as good as the A&H MixWiz, it was just the response in the A&H EQ section I liked better. Plus I got the A&H off Ebay as a dealer demo for $700.00, that was the deal maker!!!
Are you going to use the Onyx for recording?

ebass,
I have not tried editing the FX on the A&H, the computer thing really scares me! I would be afraid I would delete the entire FX program and have nothing!

Vinny, For right now I will just be using it for live sound. although it is nice to know that it has a lot of options for recording.
