Highwayman? Any help here?
« on: December 28, 2005, 08:00:48 PM »
I am still gassing to get myself another Eden head. [:p] There is a Highwayman on eVilbay right now. I have been watching for a WT550, but the well seems dry.

Can anyone help me out on the Highwayman features, power rating, etc. I need something with some real gusto [}:)] at (8) ohms, so I could go with (1) D112XLT cab at church. My WT330 won't cut it, running out of power [:(] at (8) ohms. Also would the Highwayman run at 2.6 or 2 ohms safely? Is there a link I could go to for specs. etc? Do I need to wait on a WT550? [?]

Going with (1) cab would appease my pastor, and of course I won't reveal to him if I get a more powerful amp!

Remember, The Bible states that God created everything, right? So I suppose that includes bass amps and multi-cab set-ups? :-)~

The WT500 is part of the WT500/600/800 family. According to what I think the logic works as -- the Highwayman produces 250 watts @ 4ohms per side, 175 watts @ 8ohms per side. I am going to asssume this means the WT500 can do bridge mono for 500 watts @ 8 ohms. Hence the Wt500 name -- since the 800 does 400 a side for 800 bridged. I am sure someone can correct me on that one. Seems logical though, doesn't it?

If these stats are right, then you'd only be pushing 175 watts into the D112XLT.

By comparison your Wt330 is pushing 330 watts i@ 4ohms, 180watts @ 8ohms.

Going to the WT500 would not really give you anything more -- actually it would give you 5 watts less @ 8 ohms to push the D112XLT.

If I was in your shoes I'd look at the WT550. Itll give you 300 watts @ 8ohms, 500 watts @ 4ohms (if you add a second 112) and 620 watts at 2 ohms (for even another cab). This would be far more flexible than what you have now. Fretlessdude (sorry could not remember the handle [;)])  runs this set up if I remember corretly., He's posted pictures of his various combinations in the last two months. With the WT500 he can run one 112, two 112's, one 210 or any combination of the three cabs. It is a pretty impressive set-up in terms of flexibility, and I am sure tone. I think it would be perfect for your church. 300 watts into the D112 should be pretty good.

Wait, I lie -- I reccomend the WT800 cause that is what I have and it works GREAT!!!! I cannot imagine needing anymore power or flexibility for my purposes.

I run my WT800 into a D112XLT I just purchased recently. I am only using it at home and had not had a chance to test it against a drummer/band. Nor have I really been able to play much of anything lately....argghhh...anyways. The 800 puts 240 watts into this 250 watt cab.

i would imagine with sound reinforcement from a PA it would be OK with quiter bands. I would envision wanting at least two 112's if I was going to play with a moderately loud drummer in a rock n' roll sort of atmosphere -- I think that would be my minimum.

Here's a link to the older WT800/600/500 manual:

http://www.eden-electronics.com/info/manuals/pdf/WT800-600-500manual2003.pdf

I believe Cosmic is correct that the Highwayman will put out 500 watts bridged into 8 ohms.  It cannot run less than 4 ohms per side.

I've started using a single 8-ohm driver at my church and it works pretty well.  Fortunately our drummer and the other instruments aren't too loud.  I mainly went to a single driver to reduce boominess and reflected sound.

Unless you can score a great deal on a WT500 I would wait for a WT550 to show up.

What's wrong with the WT500......... poor orphan never gets any love around here.  Some people (myself included) prefer a stereo amp.

There is nothing wrong with it, it's just an older model. You also have to carefully consider your cab choices before you purchase something and find out you don't have enough power.

I think that head would be great to push (2) older D210T or 210xlt cabs or (2)112xlt cabs in stereo, Other than that select (1) 8ohm cab that will fit you needs and run the amp bridged.

You can run a 210xst 8ohm cab with a WT500 in bridge mode, It's a perfect match but then you must realise thats the only cab you can run with that head. If you where thinking multiple cabs then I would get the 210xst in 4ohms and run that particular amp in dual mono.
