New Eden Set Up! Help!
« on: July 13, 2019, 09:07:53 AM »
Hello everyone.
Can anyone help?
I want to know if the following gear is compatible.
Eden Terra Nova TN501 Bass Head
Eden EX410SC4 4x10 cab
Eden D115 1x15 cab
I'm not a clever enough to know ohms etc but I wondered if anyone could tell me if this will work without any issues with ohms, power output or problems?
There's 3 sockets on the back, 1 x speakon and 2 std jack. If I just runs both cabs from the jack outputs, will I be getting the most out of this set up.
P.S. The 4 x 10 is already bought (second hand), so is the Terra Nova (New). I'm about to get the D115 (second hand)
Thank you one and all.
Jay x

Hi Jay and welcome to the Garden!

The TN501 can handle a maximum load of 4 Ohm. So the impedance can not be lower than 4 Ohm.
That could be two 8 Ohm cabs or one 4 Ohm cab.
So the answer is no, because of a to high load/ to low impedance. 4 Ohm cab and 8 Ohm cab results in a 2.6 Ohm load.
Rock on!

Hi Armin.
Thank you for all that.
The EX410SC4 is a 4 ohm cab so with the cab and the TN501, I'm at my maximum then.
If I bought the D115, do I need to power it with it's own power amp? The D115 is 200watts into 8ohms.
What would you suggest?
Thanks for your help, this is opening my eyes to what can and can't be done.
Jay

You could power the D115 with a separate amp.  Did you know that most Eden amps can serve as a master amp in that kind of circumstance?

You can take the headphone out signal from the Eden and feed it into a Return on the slave amp.  That way, the EQ and other preamp functions, as well as the Master Volume of the Eden amp gets fed to the slave amp and if you've set the relative volume of the second amp, it will even follow the volume as you adjust it on the Eden amp.

Don't have a Nemesis amp, but this works with the WT amps.

Thanks Guys.

I'm now looking at a N410RS which is a 4x10 at 8ohms to go with the D115, also at 8ohms. Both to be run by my new Terra Nova TN501, which is 4ohms.

How does that sound?

Thanks again!
Jay

Don't have a Nemesis amp, but this works with the WT amps.

Hey T-man,

The Nemesis amps could use the headphones-out to slave another amp just fine.  Did that with my RS400 many times.  However, Jay is talking about the TN501 to power his cabs.  That's a Class D amp and I don't know if it will do that.  The older WTX amps would go right into protect mode if you tried to slave from them using the headphones jack. If I recall correctly it worked on all or almost all of the old WT amps but not it did not work at all on the WTX.

Odds are the TN501 won't handle that either, since it's basically an updated WTX with a different preamp.  It can still slave another amp by sending a signal from the Effects-Send to the other amp's Effects-Return,  but you will need to adjust any volume changes at both amps.

I'd wait for Armin to chime in here about slaving from the headphones with the TN series.  It's cool if it does it because it allows changes in volume at the master to also change in the slave.  But it's not that big of a deal if it doesn't, because once you have it set, how often are you going to be changing it at a gig?  Odds are once or maybe not at all.

Right Dan. Brain was was thinking Nemesis and didn't pick up on the TN501 digital amp.  Who knows what that can do in this circumstance, but you are probably right.

Well....nuts....  I have a TN226, I suppose I can give it a try.  Can't do that at home though. We actually live downstairs from our landlord, so I practice with just headphones.

He Armin, any idea how long the WTX would play when trying to slave using the headphones jack or did it immediately go into protect mode?

If the headphone out is providing a line level signal why would it go into a protection mode if that signal is being fed to an amp rather than a set of headphones?  Finding it difficult to understand the problem here...

Hi Dan and Paul,
it stops working right away.
It's because the class D module in there is used in Bridge Mode so there is no real ground. A connection to another amp will connect that signal to ground. it's the same for the WTX260.
Rock on!
