My Eden Blues Rig
« on: December 22, 2004, 06:21:01 AM »
Guess I'll move this post here, now that there's a dedicated section of the forum for sound file show and tell...

I just received a disc with the final mixes of my band's new album on it this week. We are a blues/rock band. This is the opening cut from the CD. It's our version of the Mel London blues classic 'Sugar Sweet', originally made famous by blues greats Muddy Waters and Freddy King.

My bass track was recorded with a blended two track approach, with a line off my Eden WT-300 head's DI output going to one track, and a large diaphram condensor mic on one of the drivers of my 4 ohm Eden D210T cab, feeding a signal to the second track. The bass I used on both of these tracks is my Spector Q4 Pro Series, with EMG pickups.

It's an MP3 file, so it has naturally lost some of the full fidelity of the original WAV file, but you'll get the idea. File size is around 6.7 MBs. Please take a listen and feel free to critique the overall mix...

And here's a very short uncompressed WAV file clip from another song on our new CD release. Keep your head down when our sax player let's loose on that tenor!

Sounds great! Love the stops and the change at the end.
I'm no engineer but the mix sounds great to me!

Very nice and tight ! Well played !! I think the overall mix lack some "sparkle" or "air" and a bit wider stereo image. I ran the your mp3 thru my Cubase mastering setup, and it is quite possible to get that "air" and punch. I can e-mail it if you want to compair.

Thanks for the comments guys...

Once the project is professionally mastered, I think the kind of sparkle and air one would like to hear will be there. As it stands it's a pretty decent raw mix, anyhow.
