A real bargain...
« on: March 23, 2017, 04:00:37 PM »
I got this gem, a Steinberger XL2/5 last weekend, when I went to Stockholm to test drive a nice car. The price was more than good, really shockingly good. The condition was good too. Not mint, since it is a bass made in 1985 and played a lot by the previous owner.

B.t.w. I bought the car too:

A nice Hyundai Santa Fe 2010 that swallows my upright and bass rig at the same time. And two passengers. 197 Hp turbo diesel with a torque that is not of this world...

Good score on the bass Roger! The Steinberger and the car are both nice. The car looks fairly compact, surprising you could get both the upright and amp in there. Two thumbs up!

Well, the car ain't that compact. Here is another pic with my cousin - a very tall cousin - leaning on it...

Nice overall score!
I drove a Santa Fe in Russia. Liked it in the snow.
Never had a Steinberger, look kind of funny on a big guy like me. But Iliked what Vail Johnson did with his!

One "problem" with the five string is that the string spacing is stupidly narrow. Just some 12.5 mm. It is the same neck as on the four string, just one more string. I'd rather have a four string, so I have to chase a bit...

I really like those Steinberger headless basses! The tone is amazing! And due to it's size is it a fantastic bass to tour with. I believe it has a graphite neck.... like my bass; absolutely hassle free....
Good luck with that bass!! One day I get myself also a Steinberger bass... I hope... or dream...

Well, this is actually the third Steinie I've had. I still regret selling the last one, a four string XL2. I have my eyes wide open for one of these...
