Photos of you playing bass....
« on: October 28, 2016, 06:01:03 AM »
I couldn't find a thread like this so I'll start one.
How about some action photos of you and your bass?

Last summer in Columbia, Mo.

The Mojo Roots in Memphis ,2013 in the semi finals of the International Blues Challenge.

Another from the 2013 IBC.

Nuts, I don't have anything real current but when I moved to Washington in 2015, I found some ancient pictures  so here's one of me in about 1971  :o 8)

Notice of course the polyester clothes, giant collars, poofy sleeves, etc.   That's my 1965 Jazz Bass that I bought in 1966.  It was stolen along with my Standel amp and my mic about 5-years after this picture was taken.

Ok I found this other one that my avatar came from when I was playing with a group called "The Mid-Life Crisis" at the Coffee-Pot in Roanoke, VA quite a while back.   My wife no longer comes to my gigs, so I don't have anything from the last few years.

I had to play with the light levels in Photoshop on my bass because the original picture had a huge flash reflection off the body.  My bass is considerably more white than that.

Thanks for looking!

Love the pic from '71 Dan! Big hair, big sideburns, it's a classic.
Too bad your gear was stolen. Man I hate when that happens. That 65 Jazz is sweet!
I've been lucky to have played a lot the last several years, and to have a handful of good photogs in the area who like to share their pics. My wife goes to some of my gigs but doesn't get into taking photos.

A few years back, summer 2012 I think, before I cut off my Lion King hair. Next to closing act on a country & western festival...

Black P-bass long gone. Not my backline, my U5 though...

A friend - kind of - published this picture. ;) Spring 2012, hair still there, jazz gig at a local club...

My old bastardized J'78...

Thanks Jim.   Those years touring all over the country playing night-clubs was a real kick.  I remember combing my hair straight back one night at one club so it looked like a poofy sort of mane.   Had a lady come up and ask if it was my real hair.  I said yes and gave it a little tug.  She reached up and yanked my hair - hard!  She really thought it was going to be a wig and was doing her best to pull it off.  That's the last time I let a woman yank on my hair - at least, while I was on stage that is.

Yeah it so sucked when my gear was stolen.  We had just moved to Oregon in 1976 and were staying with the in-laws for a couple of weeks.  Went to the county fair and came back to a ransacked house.  Took my '65 Jazz, my Standel amp and cab, and my two microphones.  They left me one mic stand.  Good news is that I finally managed to find a bass with the same feel to the neck in 1985 and that's the one I have now.  And of course my amp and cabs are far better although that Standel would put an acoustic 360/361 to shame.  Those '71 shots were from a photographer who was hired by our agent to do the photo shoot.

Bad news is that I had hernia surgery a little over a week ago, so no lifting over 15-lbs for another 6-weeks or so.  Has put the kibosh on our trio's rehearsal schedule.  We're trying to get JamKazam working so we can rehearse together over the internet, but it can be a pain to get configured correctly.  And no, the hernia was not from moving my gear but for helping to move a chop saw - never go up on your tip-toes to get that last half-inch of height.

Thanks for posting the photos Roger and Dan. It's fun seeing those pics.
Anyone else have some pics to post?

Here are a couple more shots from my last band, DigNitty. We are currently on hiatus for several months.
Having Aina sing with us is good for the image of four old guys.  ;)

This is our friend Lenny, who sang with Tower Of Power at one time, cutting up with Aina on "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby".
