I see.  That makes since.

I guess the only question that remains is how are the Terras different from the WTX, (besides the obvious para EQ and different size/layout).

The added EQ flexibility in the mid range is a very good thing!  Plus the ability to plug in an mp3 player or CD player with the 3.5mm plugs in the back is very handy.  The Aux-in is also 3.5mm and is in the back whereas the WTX500 has L and R aux with 1/4" jacks on the front.

Interestingly, if you want to easily hook up 2 external speaker cabs (careful not to go less than 4 ohm load), you can use the two 1/4" plugs or just daisy chain from one cab to the other - it's all a parallel connection.

Not sure, but I believe you can also use the Speakon output with an NL4 connector that can be split on the other end to two separate Speakon  cords  for the two cabs using 1 +/- for one cab and 2 +/- connections for the other.  If using two cabs though, I don't know if I'd worry about the Speakon connectors.  I toured for years with 1/4" plugs running 250 watts through them with no problem.  I would NOT do that with my current 800-watt amp.

I was more concerned with the topology of the amp and about how loud it can get.  Is it basically a WTX with few extra features or a stripped down WTP?

My fav amp tones are from the E300T and Time Traveler, I would love for some Time Traveler Gene Pool.  I don't have the arsenal all you do but Eden is still a big part of my tone.  Lately I have craved a combo and was looking at the GK MB212.  But a TN501 in a combo I would want more!

Hey gang - I'm very familiar with these amps (having spent all of NAMM with them) if you have questions... some comments based on ones I've seen.

They are rack mountable AND the rack ears store in a recessed area on the underside of the heads.

The POWER section ultimately the same as the WTX for the 500w.

The update to the eq section changes the way the heads interact with the power section in a pleasing way... they sound 'warmer/fuller' than their wtx counter parts.

The overall area the heads take up is about the same as the wtx, where the wtx was narrower, it is also deeper... and it has the DI level knob on the back.

The combos are excellent. The 2x10 has a a lot of punch and crispness (...and I still currently play a metro). It is small and light-ish (for what it is). The 1x12 feels similar... and astute observers will notice the front panel is tilted up slightly.

The real star to me is the TN110. I played through this a lot and it handles a low B and is smooth through a full sweep up the neck. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get 2 - 8 Ohm versions and a TN501. Seriously, everyone was impressed by this cabinet.

The Terra Nova heads easily fit in my MONO FlyBy bag (which I use when I fly with my current wtx).

The main difference between these and the wtx is that the Terra Novas do away with any 'combo' controls. Everything has a dedicated push switch or knob. They also come with rack ears and the Eq section makes a big difference. I am really impressed with these.

BassDBler,

How does the Tarra combo hang with the Metro?

Seems with less than half the watts it wouldn't come too close to being a stage beast like the Metro could.  Hopefully they will move to put 500W Terra in a 210 combo.

I haven't done any real A/B testing. I would love to have a 2x10 Terra Nova combo for rehearsals or smaller gigs. It is tough to compare directly without having them side by side, but I'd say my metro is fuller and boomier (sic?) while the Terra Nova seems more focused but not as rich. The Terra Nova is no slouch and it weighs a whole lot less than my metro (I have a lot, a lot, of steps to from my home). I'm only comparing these to the Nemesis line from memory... But it seems similar. The combos seemed plenty loud to me... For the grey area clubs with vocals only pa, etc. I really like the 2x10 TN combo. If you're really concerned with stage volume, I often play with my wtx and one of the 2x10 wedge cabs. I use that for most rehearsals too.

Any idea as to when the TN combos will be available in the U.S.?
I'm assuming the quality of the TN's is much higher (with more power) than the E series?

Anxious in Colorado!

Hi Paul,
they are available now!
In the UK the first load is already sold and in the US they sell fast as well.
The next shipment is on the water and beginning of Aprl in the shops.
If you want one better run to your next Eden dealer and have him put your name on it.

It is an Eden masterpiece and great idea to put the WT550 tone in a lightweight amp.

Thanks!  I'll keep my eyes open.  Haven't seen them yet in local stores OR at any of the national music mail order dealers.  The 12" TN would be a great portable companion to my D210xst cab and WT550 head.  Will be nice to have a "quality" lightweight to take to rehearsals and small jam sessions.

Appreciate the info!

Paul

What is the wattage rating of the TN501 at 8 ohms?
Will the TN EQ fix the lack of clean mids, high mids that the WTX suffered from ?

Did you like the tone of the WT550?
Then this is the right amp for you.
300W.

Yeah, I love the tone of the WT550. I have the WTX500 but it seems to not be able to keep up at band practice. I run 8 ohm cab.

The power section is the same on the Terra Nova as it is on the WTX. The Terra Nova does sound WAY better, though. I also feel like there is more headroom and I don't need to boost any frequencies. I played a gig with just it and a 2x10 and was fine (but I was also running through the PA). The Terra Nova sounds much fuller than the wtx at volume. If your rehearsals are quite loud, I'd look at getting another 8ohm cab for the biggest bang.
