Adam Blackstone

Any fans here?

This guy is incredible! You know how James Jamerson's name stands alone, regardless of the innumerable legends he recorded with? He truly made a name for himself. Blackstone is on his way to that, as well, IMO (if he hasn't already).

You may have seen him on recent performances with Justin Timberlake (various music awards shows, SNL, late night talk shows, etc.). The first time I saw him was with Jill Scott on VH1's Soulstage. He was her bassist/musical director at that time. If you Google him, I think you'll be impressed with all his achievements thus far in his young career.

If you haven't heard him, I'll introduce him to you the same way he was introduced to me:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jXfUn6o7Sg

There is a long spoken intro then 2 songs follow. The first song, "The Way", is what I'm posting about. It starts around 1:25. Adam's arrangement is just KILLER! Check him out at 1:52 if you only listen to one thing on the whole video! Insane!

I had wanted a WT800 for about 15 years. After I saw this show, I started looking for one quite diligently haha.

I was immediately interested because of our similar gear interests, as well (Lakland 5 string, octave pedal bliss at 3:19!!, Eden head). I've always been a Jill Scott fan.

I LOVE his phrase around 4:11 also, and all the things he does thereafter as the song starts to summit to the end.

Everyone on that stage is awesome, especially the kid on drums OMG!!!

If you like that video, check this out from the same show:

Adam Blackstone is just an awesome bassist, arranger, band leader, and producer. Check him out! Very inspiring.

His recent performances with Justin Timberlake on SNL and Jimmy Fallon are equally stellar.

I've always wanted a WT800, but his performance with Jill Scott posted above was nail in the coffin! I HAD to have one after that haha.

I think he plays GK now. Also good stuff IMO.

I mentioned above about Adam's recent performances with Justin Timberlake. Here's an absolutely great performance from Saturday Night Live on YouTube in HD. Turn your speakers up and make sure the HD option is selected.
The whole thing is great, but Adam's amazingness starts at about 2:00. The phrases around the 2:30 mark--I don't even know what to say. The half-time break down is great--even if you hate Jay-Z. Don't forget he arranged every sound you hear as the musical director.

I think he's playing a Performance Guitars 5 String, and probably his GK amp, but just pretend its his old WT800 :)

enjoy!
