Favorite Bassists & Eden Endorsee
« on: November 05, 2012, 10:13:25 AM »
As a young teen just starting out on the bass, I watched an epic music event on TV in 1974 (some of you reading this watched it too). Aired on ABC, "California Jam" featured the likes of Deep Purple, The Eagles (just boys then), Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and the heaviest of all, Black Sabbath. I was already a fan of Sabbath, but had never seen them. I was transfixed by Geezer Butler on the tube. Naturally animated, intense, and paired with the amazing Bill Ward on drums, he had a distinct steadiness that drove the band like an oncoming 747 on a low pass - yet they were always anchored to the melody. Perfect. As I learned more about Geezer in later years, it was humbling to discover that he's such a kind, peaceful and content human being. Oddly, I've never played in a true 'heavy metal' band, and never even covered a Sabbath tune in any act I've been a part of, and I've admired many other bassists over the years. But I will never forget Geezer Butler. If I had to fly halfway around the Earth to get just 5 minutes with him, I'd thank him in-person. Really.

When it comes to Eden, I'm troubled that I can't recall the endorsee who visited one of our local music stores in Wilmington NC, back around 1999 or so. I believe he played a Lakland bass and had a stint as a band leader on a nationally syndicated daytime talk show (can't even remember the celebrity host). What I do know is that, in the course of his hour-long (and yes, inspiring) clinic, he sold me on Eden. Period. Never doubt the power of a talented bassist, his/her fine instrument, and an Eden rig. And it's been a great journey these last dozen years. My apologies to that fine musician, and I hope someone in this forum can help flush-out my memory banks.

I've really been rackin' my brain over that Eden endorsee. I remember buying a studio CD from him and I'm searching for that. And I believe his first name was Mark. Damn, this 'gettin' old' stuff is for the birds.  :-[
