Has it been cold and snowy where you play?
« on: April 02, 2008, 10:58:19 PM »
That sucks. We've having very comfy evenings for outdoor shows. I know I'll pay for it in the summer, but right now is my time to gloat.

Note my diminutive rig behind me, which the sound guy needed me to turn down so he could put me in the mains.

I think everywhere has that "special time of year". Some of those special times are only special because the follow the worst times of the year, but some are just perfect. Reno has two, spring and fall. Winter isn't really that cold compared to the northeast and north central states, and summer isn't that hot compared to the southwest, but spring and fall have comfortable short sleeve days and the nights are just chilly enough to make you appreciate the days. Wonderful.

Looks like you're having fun.

You have no idea how sick I am of snow.

Apparently, thanks to global warming or something, we now have 11 months of winter and 1 month of summer.

I believe your report that the WTX260 + 2 112XLTs had to be turned down. I've been using my 210XST4 a lot but went back to my dual 112XLTs this weekend. Holy crap! Your stage rig looks great.

Last winter I slipped on ice (dusted with fresh snow) carrying a 112, and my WTX in a backpack. Fell flat on my back without hitting my head, set the 112 down gently, and kept the backpack from hitting the ground. My wife thought I should have dropped the gear to break the fall but who needs a wrist injury? I'm so ready to ditch the winter coat.

"Has it been cold and snowy where you play?"

It's almost a running joke now!  No wait... it IS a running joke!  Every gig this winter... EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM... it has snowed heavily the night of a gig for me.  For both bands.  It's horrible.  Last week, I even joked with Tony, "Hey I called the Weather Channel to have them change the forecast to snow, cuz Mellotron is playing a gig."  Lo and behold, at the end of practice the night BEFORE the gig, he checks the weather on his cell phone, "Hey Bryan..."  AAAARGH!!!!  F THIS S IN THE A!!!!

Got a gig tomorrow.  Let's check the forecast...

AM rain, high 46 F, chance of precip, 30%

We'll see if the curse lives on....

Next gig: Saturday March 15th at the Token Lounge, MELLOTRON!
Eden WT550, D210XLT-4 and D212XLT-4, Ibanez 5-stringers, UHF Wireless

The new full-length album RECURRING THEMES out... Wait for it.... RIGHT NOW!

I am so sick of doing gigs in the snow and cold. The load-in and out is bad enough but attendance is crap when there's a big storm... and we've had a few. Bring on the summer!

Two winters ago we made three outdoor gigs on the 21st and 22nd of December, standing on a tractor wagon on the centre square in a nearby town, backing up a soon to be star singer. I had gloves with the fingertips cut off just to be able to play. It was snowing and freezing cold, but very good money.

The guitarist had problems getting his guitar hold the tuning, but my Elixir's kept the pitch surprisingly well...

Indeed. I like this particular venue because the stage is nice and roomy and I can really get away from my amp and have some room to move around. Outdoor really trumps clubs/bars for me, so this time of year is the best.

It's rediculous how loud that rig can get. We have subs in the PA so the real low stuff is covered and I can cut through anything with my little mini-stack. It's especially crazy when you consider that when I only take one bass, I can take my whole rig in one trip with no dolly.

Big rigs are cool for sure, but it really is fun when a compact one knocks people out.
